Us Playboy Part 1
.
In this lesson, you will study the song "Us Playboy" by Rappin' Hood. Rappin Hood is from Vila Arapuá, Heliopólis, which is considered part of the "periphery" of São Paolo. He is known for his conscientious lyrics and fusion of hip hop and samba. As you can see from the picture, he also suffers from Vitiligo, which is a condition of pigmentation loss. Rappin Hood does not hide his condition, however, which only makes him that much cooler.
In the song, "Us Playboy," he criticizes the lifestyle of Brazilian socialites, or "Playboys" (plei - BOIS). He compares their life of luxury to the life of hardship endured by most people, or "polvo" (POU - vu). Despite his wealth, however, Rappin Hood ultimately concludes that the Playboy id worse off than the polvo, since it is the Playboy who must live in constant fear of robbery and assault. As he raps in the chorus of this song: "The Playboy has cars, money and power, but he doesn't have peace."
