Lesson 3: Cuicas
I came upon this artist in a situation similar to the one described in the last lesson. His name is Jameliani and he's was a blonde Rasta from Rio Grande do Sul. I met him on the beach and he was selling baked goods. It was a hot day and I was more interested in a cool beverage than a cupcake, so I had to turn down his offer. But then he followed up by offering his CD for R$5.
I asked him what kind of music was on it, to which he responded "tudo," so once again, I was skeptical. Nevertheless, I forked over the fiver and took the CD home. And of course, once again I was blown away. Everything you hear in this song was 100% written and produced by that random beach bum I met at Ipanema.
This song, Cuicas, combines several musical genres and elements, and focuses on the sound of the trademark Brazilian sound made by the cuica. The song is very original and the chorus is very catchy, so I thought it would make a good final song for this course.
